Naledi which means "star” in Setswana is now an independent design company based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Naledi Fashion House was established in 2008 by Tanzanian designer & creative entrepreneur, Kemi Kalikawe. All collections are designed exclusively by Kemi Kalikawe, with the exception of choice selections from the students at the Naledi Fashion Institute, of which Kalikawe is also Founder.

Naledi Fashion House designs ready-to-wear, casual/contemporary Afro-urban clothing and accessories for both women and children. Naledi Fashion House is committed to fair trade ethics, and giving back to the community. Making heavy use of one of Tanzania’s national fabrics, the Khanga, together with various other African fabrics such as Kitenge and Ankara, Naledi promotes African innovation at a global level through its creative entrepreneurship. Naledi Fashion House was amongst the very first to encourage the use of Khanga as a mainstream fabric in contemporary fashion, and is pleased to see that other designers around the globe are now seeing the endless possibilities that the Khanga and other African fabrics offer. Naledi Fashion House continues to strive to support the African textile industries through its design of funky, wearable looks available to buy off the peg or by special request.

Naledi Fashion House’s Afro-urban designs consistently fuse flattering minimalistic silhouettes, in line with current fashion trends, together with exciting, modern African fabrics. Naledi proves that African fabrics can be extremely versatile, showing that they can at once be glamorous and sexy or soulful and homely, and likes to play with unexpected fabric combinations, such as Tanzanian Kitenge with lace. Naledi collections often feature attractive office-wear and smart-casual styles with an intriguing African twist.
